Overseas Licence Conversion

Lessons for overseas licence holders preparing for the Australian practical driving test. Focused on Australian road rules, local driving habits, and the specific techniques examiners assess — not on learning to drive from scratch.

If you hold an overseas licence, you generally need to pass a local knowledge test and a practical driving test before driving in Australia long-term. The practical test is where most overseas drivers need preparation — not because they cannot drive, but because Australian road rules, road behaviour, and examiner expectations differ from what they are used to.

These lessons are built around that gap. Your instructor will assess your driving in the first session and focus on the areas most likely to cost marks on test day. Give-way rules at intersections, speed zone awareness, mirror check frequency, and keeping left on multi-lane roads are common adjustment areas for drivers coming from overseas.

Lessons run in an automatic or manual car, depending on the class of licence you are converting. Pickup and drop-off are included within the service area.

Before your first lesson

Check with your state's licensing authority on whether a knowledge test is required before you can sit the practical test — requirements vary between states. Your instructor can point you in the right direction if needed.

What's included

  • Skills Assessment First Lesson

Your instructor assesses your current driving at the start and builds the lesson plan around what needs work — not a fixed curriculum.
  • Local Road Rules Coaching

Plain-English walkthrough of Australian-specific rules — roundabouts, give-way priorities, school zones and merging etiquette.
  • Practical Test Preparation

Targeted training on the manoeuvres examiners assess — kerbside parking, reverse parking, three-point turns and hill starts.
  • Test Routes and Centre Familiarity

Drive the same suburbs and intersections used by your local test centre, so nothing on test day catches you off guard.
  • Multilingual Support Where Available

Several of our instructors speak languages other than English — please ask when booking and we will match where possible.
